The Legal Committee

The Legal Committee, formally designated as the Sixth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, is tasked with the critical examination and progressive development of international law. Its agenda focuses on highly technical and consequential legal matters, including the codification and clarification of treaties, the establishment of jurisdictional frameworks for emerging domains, and the resolution of complex issues related to international criminal justice and the sovereignty of nations.

Delegates engage in detailed deliberation on the interpretation, application, and creation of legal norms and instruments. They work collaboratively to draft resolutions and conventions that aim to strengthen the rule of law worldwide, harmonize national legislation with international standards, and ensure the peaceful and equitable resolution of disputes between Member States, thereby reinforcing the international legal architecture.
