Τhe North Atlantic Council
The North Atlantic Council (NAC), serving as the supreme political decision-making body of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, is solely responsible for shaping the political cohesion and collective security strategies of the Alliance. Its agenda is focused on issues of the highest strategic importance, including the establishment of unified policies for countering international threats, comprehensive cyber defense, consistent military cooperation, and the executive management of international crises.
The Ministers (or Permanent Representatives) convene to conduct high-level negotiations, with the objective of formulating binding policies and resolutions aimed at enhancing deterrence, solidifying solidarity among members, and directly addressing emerging threats. The Council emphasizes the implementation of the Principle of Collective Defence (Article 5) and the maintenance of international peace and security through coordinated political and military action.
